The What is a Vote Worth? workshop was made possible through the support of the Frazier History Museum.

September 13, 2019 | Workshop Overview

On August 18, 1920, Congress ratified the Nineteenth Amendment granting women the right to vote. The Kentucky Council for the Social Studies and the Frazier History Museum is pleased to partner together in this workshop, where educators can discover how to support student learning on this important topic.

During this workshop teachers will:

  • Discover a major curriculum resource developed by Jefferson County Public Schools in the form of a website titled What is a Vote Worth?  (Curriculum will be available for public use by all interested school districts).

  • Learn standards-aligned inquiry based practices for utilizing the What is a Vote Worth resource through a series of breakout sessions, with an emphasis on written and verbal argumentation, creating inquiry tasks, and taking informed action.

  • Receive instructional training for utilizing the website directly from its creators, including Ryan New, JCPS Social Studies Instructional Lead and Carly Muetterties, KCSS Executive Director

  • Hear an overview of the full Louisville Suffrage Centennial, supported by over 100 local organizations and learn about the Frazier Museum’s major exhibition opening in March, 2020 that will celebrate this important centennial and examine Kentucky’s unique role in the fight for women’s suffrage.
