Recognize Kentucky Leaders

KCSS Awards


The Kentucky Council for the Social Studies (KCSS) is accepting nominations for two awards:
  • The Outstanding Social Studies Teacher Award
  • Georgia Davis Powers Civic Leader

Administrators, parents, colleagues, students, former students, and community members are encouraged to nominate an outstanding social studies teacher and civic leader. 

Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award

The Kentucky Council for the Social Studies (KCSS) is accepting nominations for outstanding social studies teachers. Administrators, parents, colleagues, students, former students, and community members are encouraged to nominate an outstanding social studies teacher. 

Nomination Deadline is August 31, 2020.

Nominations for the 2020 Outstanding Social Studies Teacher Award must meet the following requirements:
  • Each candidate must have completed a minimum of THREE years teaching experience.
    • Must be currently teaching social studies in elementary, middle, or high schools in Kentucky.
    • Nominations should be made without regard to age, sex, race, religion, disability, or national origin.
  • If chosen as a KCSS Outstanding Social Studies Teacher, the award recipient agrees to attend the KCSS 2020 Annual Conference.
Nominator should:
  • Have knowledge of the nominee’s ability to teach social studies.
  • Should provide a written endorsement of the nominee. The endorsement should explain why the Kentucky Council for the Social Studies should recognize the nominee as an Outstanding Social Studies Teacher. Be sure to include specific examples of the candidate’s impact on students, other teachers, and the community.
  • Complete a nomination packet must including 2 references (forms attached). If the nominator is not the principal of the nominee, one of these references must be from the principal. Self- nominations are accepted, but reference criteria still apply.
Nominee should:
  • Provide a resume, including a list of community engagement and committees served
 
Nominations are due to the KCSS Awards Committee Chair by August 31, 2020, sent via email to kysscouncil@gmail.com. Please submit all information at one time.   

 
A panel will review the nomination forms and select the recipient of the Outstanding Social Studies Teacher Award. Recipients will be notified by Friday, October 2, 2020.

Georgia Davis Powers Civic Leader Award

The Kentucky Council for the Social Studies (KCSS) is accepting nominations for the Georgia Davis Powers Civic Award to recognize leaders whose work has fostered civic engagement in and outside the classroom. These leaders can be both educators and community members.

Nomination Deadline is August 31, 2020.

Nominations for the 2020 Georgia Davis Powers Civic Leader Award must meet the following requirements:
  • Be a Kentucky resident.
  • Nominations should be made without regard to age, sex, race, religion, disability, or national origin.​
Nominator should:
  • Have knowledge of the nominee’s contribution to their community and in promoting civic engagement.
  • Should provide a written endorsement of the nominee. The endorsement should explain why the Kentucky Council for the Social Studies should recognize the nominee. Be sure to include specific examples of the candidate’s impact on young people, education, and/or the community.
 
Nominations are due to the KCSS Awards Committee Chair by August 31, 2020, sent via email to kysscouncil@gmail.com. Please submit all information at one time.
